Officially known as the Republic of Korea, South Korea has transformed itself over the last sixty years from an underdeveloped agrarian society to a vibrant industrialized nation. Government policies accelerated science and technology developments, agencies were established to carry out those initiatives, and educational institutions were founded to produce innovative scientists and engineers.
